WINDOW ROCK – The arena is set, the ropes are ready, and Window Rock is kicking off an exciting week of rodeo, learning, and inspiration.

The Home of the Navajo PRCA Rodeo officially opened the week with the Navajo Nation Youth Team Roping Clinic at Dean C. Jackson Arena in Window Rock, Arizona. Hosted by Native Land Insurance Services, the free youth event welcomed young rodeo athletes from across the Navajo Nation for a full day of motivational talks, horsemanship, groundwork, sled work, live cattle instruction, and hands-on learning from PRCA World Champions and National Finals Rodeo qualifiers.

“Every single day, you have an opportunity to be a better person,” said Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. “Whether it’s rodeo, school, work, or life, success comes from hard work, discipline, prayer, perseverance, and surrounding yourself with people who elevate you. Believe in yourself, stay consistent, and never quit on your dreams.”

Throughout the event, rodeo champions and mentors shared personal stories about sacrifice, dedication, overcoming challenges, and the importance of staying focused on positive goals. Speakers encouraged youth to avoid negative influences, work hard every day, practice the fundamentals, and continue building strong values both inside and outside the arena.

Many of the speakers reflected on growing up on the Navajo Nation and spoke about the importance of family, community support, and staying humble while chasing big dreams. Parents were also recognized for the sacrifices they make to help support their children’s goals and rodeo journeys.

The clinic also helped build excitement for this weekend’s Navajo PRCA Rodeo events, including steer roping, slack competitions, and nightly rodeo performances featuring Navajo rodeo athletes competing on their home grounds.
