PHOENIX, Ariz – Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren joined the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Arizona for its monthly luncheon, where the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development shared opportunities for businesses, contractors, entrepreneurs, and partners interested in working with the Navajo Nation.

The discussion focused on business registration, business site leases, tourism development, infrastructure investments, and the shared goal of keeping more dollars circulating within Navajo communities.

“Economic development is where true tribal sovereignty happens,” President Nygren said. “The stronger the Navajo Nation becomes, the stronger our communities become. Every business, every project, and every investment creates opportunities for Navajo workers, entrepreneurs, families, and future generations.”

Sharlene Platero, Division Director for the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development, encouraged business owners to register with the Nation, get on the source list, and work directly with the division on leasing and development opportunities.

“We are here to help the business community create jobs for our Navajo people,” Platero said. “We want to keep more Navajo dollars on Navajo land, and that takes partnership, investment, and businesses willing to grow with our communities.”

President Nygren also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand financing for Navajo businesses, pursue major tourism corridor investments, develop multi-use housing and retail spaces, and complete critical wastewater treatment infrastructure in larger Navajo communities.

The luncheon brought together tribal business leaders, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and community partners for continued networking and collaboration.
