WINDOW ROCK – The 2A State Runner-up Rehoboth Lynx boys basketball team and their coaches were guests of Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren when they visited the Stateroom to talk about their season and share a meal with the Navajo Nation’s top basketball fan.

“Throughout our state run, going into the quarterfinal, semifinal, finals, something we always emphasized, ‘We’re not gonna dwell on how we could have done better,’” said senior Trajen West of the team’s mindset throughout the postseason.

President Nygren congratulated the team members on their performance and the pride they brought to their families and communities throughout the season.

“It was exciting to see this team keep battling, keep the game close, and show our communities what’s possible when our young people believe in themselves and give it everything they have,” said President Nygren.

Drawing from his own experience, he encouraged the players to stay focused, believe in their path and take steady steps toward their future.

A proud Head Coach Kevin Zwiers said his team played great, and he couldn’t be happier.

“We were bummed when we lost, but we could honestly look at each other and be like, we’re legitimately did every single thing we could,” he said, “so that was cool.”

The President reminded them that their journey inspires younger athletes all across the Navajo Nation.
