WINDOW ROCK — The Navajo Nation welcomed the Nike N7 Hoop Bus to the Navajo Nation Capital on Monday, April 6, bringing a day filled with basketball, community engagement, and unforgettable experiences for youth and families.
The Hoop Bus, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is built on the belief that basketball has the power to transform lives, build connections, and uplift communities. Through its partnership with Nike N7, the initiative focuses on supporting Native American and Indigenous youth by promoting wellness, opportunity, and cultural pride through sport.
As part of its Navajo Nation tour, the Hoop Bus made stops across the region, including Window Rock and Tuba City, creating spaces where community members could gather, play, and connect. The bus itself, equipped with professional-grade hoops and a vibrant, high-energy atmosphere, transformed the Capital grounds into a dynamic basketball environment.
Throughout the day, smiles were evident across the event as children, youth, and community members participated in a variety of activities, including 3-on-3 games, knockout competitions, and interactive basketball challenges. The event created a welcoming and energetic space where participants of all ages could engage with the game and each other.
“Basketball has always been a part of who we are as Navajo people—it brings our communities together, teaches discipline, and creates opportunities for our youth,” said Navajo Nation President Nygren. “We are grateful to the Hoop Bus and Nike N7 for bringing that energy here, for showing love to our people, and for creating a space where our young people can be inspired, connect, and just enjoy the game.”
President Nygren joined in the excitement, taking part in the activities and even stepping onto the court as a team captain during a 3-on-3 matchup. He played alongside and against community members, including First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren and Miss Navajo Nation Camille Uentillie, adding to the spirit of connection and fun that defined the day.
Participants also had the opportunity to receive basketball shoes, gear, and other items provided by the Hoop Bus team, rewarding their participation and creating lasting memories for many youth in attendance.
The event highlighted the deeper impact of the Hoop Bus mission, which goes beyond the game itself. Through youth programming, community engagement, and resource distribution, the initiative continues to inspire the next generation while strengthening communities through shared experiences.
Basketball holds a special place across the Navajo Nation, serving as a unifying force that brings people together. In communities where families and neighbors may live miles apart, the basketball court often becomes a central gathering place for connection, competition, and celebration.
The Navajo Nation extends its appreciation to the Hoop Bus and Nike N7 team for visiting the Nation and creating an experience that brought joy, inspiration, and opportunity to so many.
The day in Window Rock was more than just an event—it was a celebration of community, culture, and the power of sport to bring people together.
