As this week’s winter storm moved in, our executive branch staff mobilized immediately to ensure families—especially our elders—had heat when they needed it most.

Working alongside the Department of Emergency Management, staff coordinated firewood deliveries for elders in several communities, with special attention given to those with medical conditions. In Nageezi, Counselor, Ojo Encino, Huerfano, and Torreon, community representatives partnered with chapter staff to distribute firewood ahead of the storm.

On Jan. 23, staff from the Navajo Forestry Department also stepped in to assist elders and their grandchildren in the Fort Defiance area.

These efforts are just a few examples of how our divisions, programs, and chapters came together quickly and selflessly to protect our people during this winter season.

I also want to recognize every community member who hauled wood for relatives, neighbors, or even strangers. You embody the teachings of Ké and remind us who we are as Diné people.

Ahéhee’ to everyone who stepped up to keep our families safe and warm
