I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this evening during the Kayenta Township’s Christmas Night Parade.

At this time, the Office of the President has been informed that three individuals were struck by a vehicle after an intoxicated driver entered the parade route. One of the victims is a young person who remains in critical condition, and another is a pregnant woman. Please pray for the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this devastating incident.

This event was meant to bring joy, unity, and holiday spirit to our community—and is a time for families to come together and celebrate. No one should have to experience tragedy during a season meant for love and togetherness.

I ask everyone across the Navajo Nation to please be careful, look out for one another, and take steps to prevent drinking and driving. If you see someone who may be impaired, take their keys, help them get home safely, or call for assistance. One moment of courage can prevent a lifetime of pain.

I am especially grateful to the first responders, medical personnel, and law enforcement who acted swiftly to provide assistance and secure the area. We will continue to work closely with local and Navajo Nation law enforcement as the investigation continues.

Let us come together in prayer and compassion to support those affected and to remind one another that protecting life is the greatest gift we can give this season. Again, I urge everyone to make responsible choices and to never drive while under the influence. Our communities deserve to gather without fear. We will provide updates as more verified information becomes available.

Let’s make sure everyone gets home safely to their loved ones.
