PHOENIX – The Navajo Nation proudly recognizes the recent graduation of five Navajo citizens from the Yideeską́ądi Hózhǫ́ǫ́jí Center, a Navajo Nation-owned residential substance use treatment facility in Phoenix, Ariz. The graduation was held on December 5.

While their names remain private to honor their dignity and personal journeys, their achievements stand as powerful reminders of the strength, resilience, and determination within our people.

The Center was established to provide culturally appropriate, whole-person care for members of the Navajo Nation living in urban areas. The Center is operated in partnership with Axiom Care (a Phoenix-based behavioral health provider) and the Navajo Division of Behavioral & Mental Health Services (DBMHS). YHC’s treatment approach combines evidence-based behavioral health services with traditional Diné healing practices, including cultural and spiritual support, traditional counseling, and wellness practices.

“Our teachings tell us that no matter how far we wander, we can always return to Hózhó,” said President Nygren. “These graduates show the courage it takes to walk that path, and their strength reflects the spirit of the Diné people.”

This milestone reflects the vision and foresight of Navajo leadership, whose decision to secure property in Phoenix created a place of healing for Navajo citizens living in urban areas. Through accessible, culturally grounded rehabilitation services, the Nation is helping relatives reclaim balance, rebuild their lives, and return home with renewed purpose.

Each graduate has walked a difficult and deeply personal path. Supported by dedicated staff and uplifted by teachings rooted in Diné values, they have shown the courage it takes to seek healing and the perseverance needed to transform challenges into renewed hope. Their success is more than an individual triumph—it is a testament to what becomes possible when the Navajo Nation invests in the wellness and future of its people.

“To our graduates: Your Nation is proud of you. Your journey inspires us. Your courage reflects the resilience of the Diné people,” added President Nygren.

Ahéhee’, and congratulations to each graduate.
