WINDOW ROCK – President Buu Nygren is calling on the Council and the Controller’s Office to take immediate steps toward completing a new Hardship Assistance Program — a program that would put direct financial relief into the hands of families across the Nation. With exactly one year remaining before the December 31, 2026 federal expenditure deadline, the time to act is now.

President Nygren fully supports establishing a new hardship program and has repeatedly requested the financial data needed to move it forward.

“I believe our people deserve direct relief, and I’m ready to work with every part of our government to make it happen,” said President Nygren. “What I need now is for the Council and Controller’s Office to share the data necessary to design a program that truly serves our families.”

With hundreds of millions of ARPA dollars still available — and with federal flexibility in place — creating a new hardship program is achievable. But it requires full cooperation from the Council and the Controller’s Office. President Nygren has been asking for the necessary figures for months and has received no update.

Many families continue to face high costs, economic hardship, and financial uncertainty. Relief is possible — but only if all branches of the government work together.

We need your voice.

We urge all citizens to contact your Legislative Delegate and the Controller’s Office today. Tell them you support the creation of a new Hardship Assistance Program and that you want transparency, cooperation, and action from our leaders.

The President welcomes input from chapter officials, community leaders, and families across the Nation on how hardship assistance can best support our people during this critical final year.

Together, we can move the Nation forward — but we must act now. Please share this post so more families know what is possible.
