Today, on November 10, we proudly join our brothers and sisters across the Nation in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps.

For generations, our Diné people have stood among the most dedicated defenders of our country, enlisting in the Armed Forces at rates five times higher than the national average. Many of our warriors have chosen to serve in the United States Marine Corps, drawn to its values of honor, courage, and commitment—principles deeply rooted in our Navajo teachings and warrior tradition.

The historical bond between the Navajo Nation and the Marine Corps is one of pride and sacrifice. Our Navajo Code Talkers created an unbreakable code during WWII that turned the tide of battle and saved countless lives. Their legacy continues to inspire generations of Navajo Marines who carry that same spirit of service and resilience today.

In 2023, President Buu Nygren signed a proclamation officially designating November 10th as Navajo Marine Day, honoring the unwavering contributions of Navajo Marines past and present.

We are extremely grateful for the service and sacrifices made by our veterans, as well as the families who continue to pray for their safety and await their homecoming.

As we honor the “Devil Dogs” and “Leathernecks” within our families and communities, we celebrate not only the Marine Corps’ fighting spirit, but also its continued commitment to protecting freedom and democracy for all Americans.

To all Marines—past, present, and future—ahéhee’ for your service. Your courage embodies the strength of our people and the enduring bond between the Navajo Nation and the United States Marine Corps.

Semper Fidelis. Always Faithful.
