WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — On November 4, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren met with newly sworn-in Navajo attorneys Shania Kee and Shandiin Herrera, joined by their families, to honor their accomplishments and dedication to serving the Navajo people.

President Nygren congratulated both Kee and Herrera on passing the Navajo Nation bar exam and emphasized the importance of Navajo professionals returning home to strengthen the Nation’s institutions. He noted that each new attorney represents more than a legal success – they symbolize the future of Navajo leadership rooted in education, culture, and community service.

During the meeting, President Nygren reflected on the vital role that attorneys play in government decision-making.

“Every decision I make, I consult with our attorneys,” said President Nygren. “They help guide and support me so that every action we take is grounded in the law and in what’s best for our people. I wish you both strong legal careers, and always remember to be thankful for the family members who helped you reach this moment.”

Both Kee and Herrera shared reflections on their law school journeys, their commitment to justice, and the role that cultural identity played throughout their education. Family members expressed heartfelt pride and gratitude for the opportunities made possible through hard work and perseverance.

The meeting closed with laughter, stories of college experiences, and appreciation for the families who supported each step of the journey. President Nygren commended the two for setting an example for future generations of Navajo youth, proving that with determination and cultural pride, anything is possible.
