SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — For Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, the goal is simple – create a better quality of life for the Navajo people through energy development and strong collaboration.
That was the message he shared at the Arizona Tribal Energy and Economic Futures Summit held at the Great Wolf Lodge Conference Center. President Nygren, along with Gila River Indian Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis and Hopi Chairman Timothy Nuvangyaoma, participated in the summit, which highlighted how Tribal Nations are leveraging energy sovereignty to strengthen their economies and provide opportunities for their respective tribal communities.
President Nygren spoke about the Navajo Nation’s efforts to advance economic development and ensure equitable participation in energy projects. He emphasized the Nation’s work to bring electricity and water to homes across the Navajo Nation, streamline homesite lease processes, and build lasting partnerships with state and federal agencies.
“As President, I think about the 430,000 people who need help,” said President Nygren. “To truly support them, every agreement we make must bring real benefits back to the Nation. That means strong partnerships, fair profit sharing, and long-term relationships that set the foundation for future energy projects.”
The summit reinforced the shared goal among Tribal Nations to build self-sufficient, sustainable energy systems that honor tribal sovereignty while creating long-term economic benefits for future generations.
