WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, September 10, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren met with Congressman Mike Kennedy (R-UT-3) to request that the congressman co-sponsor the “Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act” and champion the introduction of the “Veterinary Services to Improve Public Health in Rural Communities Act” in the House.
The Parity bill would provide benefits to our law enforcement officers carrying out federal functions by providing them, with many of the pension and injury-related benefits that federal law enforcement officers receive.
The Veterinary Act would authorize the IHS to expend funds to provide spay/neuter services and vaccination services across rural areas, including on the Navajo Nation, where feral dogs and other animals pose a severe threat to our health and public safety.
President Nygren and the Congressman also discussed their shared initiatives relating to clean energy and economic development.
“The United States is stronger when the Navajo Nation is strong,” President Nygren said, a sentiment to which the Congressman readily agreed.
