Upon the many festivities of the annual Navajo Nation Fair, First Lady Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren and I attended Song and Dance after we walked in the Navajo Nation Parade on Saturday, September 6.
Song and Dance is one of the events I cherish because it serves as a time and place where community members, elders, children and visitors gather to dance to songs of prayer.
The beauty of collective voices could be heard outside of the tent, where other fair festivities occurred, drawing in more people to watch and participate.
First Lady and I danced with a Masaani for multiple rounds, and it warmed my heart that she chose us to be her dance partner.
Everywhere you looked, a person was smiling out of pure enjoyment and laughter. Children pulled Cheiis from the audience and joined everyone in the ongoing rotation of dances.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at song and dance and thank you singers for sharing your songs. These moments of prayer brought sprinkles of rain, which signifies moisture to the land.
