The claims forms for the newly expanded Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) program are now live on the Department of Justice’s RECA website.
The deadline to submit claims is December 31, 2027.
Please be aware of scammers and fraudulent or predatory attorneys who will offer to assist you in the claims process in exchange for a fee. No Diné person should have to pay for claims assistance, as the Navajo Nation has programs and advocates in place to support victims seeking to file a claim.
RECA is a federal law that provides partial financial compensation to individuals who developed certain health issues from radiation exposure due to the U.S. nuclear weapons program.
Call the Office of Navajo Uranium Workers at 505-368-1260/1261 or 505-368-1266 to process your RECA claims or visit: https://www.justice.gov/civil/reca.
You can also reach out to a Community Representative in your agency. Community Representatives serve in each of the five Navajo Agencies. For assistance, please reach out to your respective representatives.
