I want to take a moment to express a heartfelt thank you to the more than 30 volunteers from the Navajo Department of Transportation (NDOT) who dedicated their time and energy today to care for the Navajo Nation Veterans Memorial Park.

Since early this morning, NDOT crews have been out clearing weeds, removing dead trees, and cleaning the grounds, not for recognition, but out of deep respect for our Navajo Code Talkers and all veterans honored at the park.

NDOT Director Tom Platero shared that this act of service was done simply to show appreciation. The team worked in partnership with the Division of Natural Resources to make sure native plants were protected and only appropriate vegetation was removed. NDOT’s staff archaeologist also assisted to ensure the area’s cultural and historical significance was respected throughout the process.

This was more than a cleanup, it was an act of love, honor and commitment to those who served our Nation.

To NDOT and every volunteer who showed up today, Ahéhee’. Your kindness and respect will not be forgotten.

This is what it means to serve with purpose, not just in words, but through action.
