Independence Day honors the 1776

Declaration of Independence and birth of the United States as an independent nation.

While the Fourth of July marks American independence, for the Navajo Nation, it’s a time of reflection, resilience, Navajo pride. As our communities gather at parades, song and dance, powwows, or rodeos, we honor sovereignty. It’s a day where tradition meets history on this shared national holiday.

Please celebrate safely and DO NOT use fireworks, especially in light of the devastation caused by Oak Ridge fire remains active. Let’s protect our communities and natural surroundings while honoring our nation.
