KIRTLAND, N.M. — With 153 graduates, Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren told each of them they would be why the Navajo Nation and America succeed.
As graduates sat under a soft sunset on Thurs., May 23, at the Kirtland Central High School football field, President Nygren was welcomed to the stage by Noah Dineyazhe.
“Whether you were first or last in your class, you finished what you started,” said President Nygren. “And that’s what matters the most.”
Roars of applause rolled around the football stands and among graduates as they felt the support and pride President Nygren shared with them.
President Nygren was a graduate who sat in a sea of caps and gowns and knew he couldn’t have gotten there alone.
“Those who carried you on their shoulders, your parents and grandparents, relatives, and guardians, gave you principles to follow,” said President Nygren. “As you continue your journey in life, remember where you came from. Your experiences, your livelihood, and most importantly, your cultural identity.”
Each student came from a unique community, and President Nygren saw not only the future of the Navajo Nation before him but also America.
President Nygren commended Kirtland Central High School for gaining the trust of each student and respecting the communities they come from so the students can create the future they want.
“As members of the Bronco community, you stand together,” said President Nygren. “Each of you will always be a Bronco, stand tall, be the change you want to see, and I’m excited to see the great things you will do for your Bronco family.”
