President Nygren meets with Microsoft

LAS VEGAS — Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren met with representatives from Microsoft at the Reservation Economic Summit on Wednesday in Las Vegas, NV.

Microsoft’s corporate and tribal representatives requested time with President Nygren to present solutions offered by their company that could help the Navajo Nation overcome the challenges that were recognized by Microsoft’s representatives who have been working with the Navajo Nation’s Department of Information Technology for the last few months.

The President informed Microsoft that the Nation is in a position where solutions offered by theirs and other companies will be seriously looked at. He added the objective of his administration was to ensure connectivity would be good for healthcare, education and other essential services.

”Our objective is to make sure that broadband deployment happens in a fashion that it’s conducive with healthcare, education, and e-commerce in a meaningful manner.”

President Nygren highlighted a quagmire of challenges to the Microsoft representatives that would take monumental efforts to overcome. Despite the problems that were identified, the President said the Nation’s resiliency would not prevent the Navajo Nation from moving forward.

The President officially invited Microsoft to visit the Navajo Nation to continue discussions.
