WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — On the opening day of the 2023 Spring Session of the 25th Navajo Nation Council in Window Rock, President Buu Nygren and Council Delegate Germaine Simonson welcomed Page High School teacher Ms. Kimberlee Williams and her Navajo government students to his office.
Several junior and seniors visited the executive office for a tour and to view a rare copy of the Treaty of 1868 – that is displayed in the hallway leading into the State Room – where the President welcomes special guests to the Navajo Nation.
Over this semester, students have been learning about the three-branch government system and the trading post era. Many have completed extensive research about the 1868 Treaty and narrowed down the 13 articles to interpret its meaning to the Navajo people.
Before departing to provide his second State of the Nation address to the Navajo Nation Council, President Nygren and Councilwoman Simonson welcomed both Page High School and Pinon High School students to walk with them to the Council Chambers as a show of unity and next generational leadership.
Throughout the next few months, the President will be the keynote speaker for several graduation ceremonies across Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico, and will continue to visit schools across the region to meet the young people of the largest Sovereign Nation in the country.
