PHOENIX — On his first day as President, Dr. Buu Nygren met with key Diné lawmakers at the Arizona State Capitol to discuss the top legislative priorities for the Navajo people.
State Senator Theresa Hatathlie, Representative Myron Tsosie, and Representative Mae Peshlakai welcomed the President and First Lady to the 28th Annual Indian Nations and Tribes Day.
Topics of discussion focused on education investments, infrastructure development, construction of new roads and water lines, the substance abuse crisis, and developing rehabilitation centers on the Navajo Nation.
The President and First Lady were introduced before a joint protocol session with Speaker Ben Toma and Senate President Warren Petersen. Around 200 guests were on the floor and in the gallery to represent the 22 Tribal Nations in Arizona.
